Commission launches website to involve citizens and businesses in policy making

Brussels, 23/10/2001 (Agence Europe) - On Monday, the European Commission launched a new website, "Your Voice in Europe" (http: //europa.eu.int/yourvoice) which provides citizens, consumers and business with the possibility of playing an active role in the Commission's policy making process. It allows them to give their views on new initiatives and on the application of existing rules, to discuss the future of Europe and to lodge complaints. In order to help those who wish to make their voice heard, the site provides access to the most relevant persons and organisations. Thus, citizens may enter into direct contact with a Member of the European Parliament or call for aid from one of several thousand interest groups that gravitate around the European institutions. Businesses can use the Business Feedback Mechanism (through one of over 200 Euro Info Centres) - with a view to making the Commission more aware of the problems they encounter in the Internal Market. "Your Voice in Europe" allows access to a broad range of interactive tools such as on-line consultation, feedback mechanisms, webfora, chatrooms and complaint procedures, in conformity with the efforts deployed by the Commission for reforming European governance.
