Commission authorises United Kingdom to grant EUR 10 million to its coal industry

Brussels, 18/10/2001 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission has authorised the United Kingdom to grant EUR 10 million (£6.4 million) in operating aid to two coal production units: £5,397,000 to Longannet Mine of Mining (Scotland) Ltd; and £1 031 066 to Aberpergwm Colliery (Anthracite Mining Ltd). The aid is intended to cover operating losses in 2000 and 2001.

The Commission had already authorised the United Kingdom to grant Longannet Mine operating aid of £17 462 000 for the period...
