France proposes a successor for Leotard

Luxembourg, 08/10/2001 (Agence Europe) - At a press conference on the fringe of the Council, Hubert Vedrine said that France had presented a candidate to succeed Francois Leotard as EU representative in Macedonia. It is a senior official, Alain Leroy, currently national co-ordinator for the Stability Pact for South Eat Europe. Several Member States, however, would like this role to go to a politician. The decision should be taken on Friday, said Vedrine, explaining that there were no other candidates for now and the decision should go in favour of Mr. Leroy if no other candidate is presented by then.
