Commission authorises aid of EUR 418 million for the beef and veal sector

Brussels, 25/07/2001 (Agence Europe) - On Wednesday, the European Commission authorised six Member States (France, Austria, Belgium, German y, Italy and Spain) to pay income aid (for a total of EUR 418 million) in favour of beef producers who suffered financial losses between November 2000 and June 2001 because of the BSE crisis. The Commission acknowledges that this crisis was an "exceptional event". The Commission also gave its go-ahead to a series of Italian and German public aid schemes...
