Commission aid to victims of earthquake in Peru expected on Tuesday

Brussels, 25/06/2001 (Agence Europe) - As soon as the earthquake in Peru was announced on Sunday, the Communities' Humanitarian Office, Echo, made contact with humanitarian NGOs present on the ground (International Federation of the Red Cross, Red Crescent and Red Crescent Societies). The decision for Commission funding to help the victims is imminent (probably on Tuesday), thanks to the new "sudden-onset" intervention procedure, which allows them to react within 48 hours.
