13/06/2001 (Agence Europe) - The new Italian Government presided by Silvio Berlusconi (seconded by the leader of Alleanza Nazionale Gianfranco Fini) has taken oath and is taking part in the NATO and EU summits. Foreign Minister Renato Ruggiero (who was WTO Director General, Trade Minister, Permanent Representative for Italy with the EU and Director General on Regional and Information Policy at the Commission) clearly stated that Italy would be continuing its European policy. Furthermore, Giulio Tremonti is appointed Finance Minister, Antonio Martino Defence Minister, Rocco Buttiglione Minister for Community Policies and Umberto Bossi for institutional reforms and devolution (the last two are MEPs, like Mr Berlusconi and Mr Fini).
