EU insists on holding free elections and on access to humanitarian aid

Brussels, 01/06/2001 (Agence Europe) - On 29 May the Swedish Presidency adopted on behalf of the EU a long declaration on Angola in which it above all:

"strongly condemns the attack by UNITA near the town of Caxito and the abduction of children". It reiterates that "a peaceful and lasting solution to the conflict, based on the Lusaka protocol, is necessary to the democratic and economic development of the country".
