01/06/2001 (Agence Europe) - The Swedish Presidency welcomed, in a declaration on behalf of the EU, the promulgation by the President of Lagos of a law abolishing the death penalty in times of peace. This is a significant step towards the universal abolition of the death penalty, states the declaration.
