Brussels, 01/06/2001 (Agence Europe) - We give below an overview of the texts scrutinised or approved by the justice ministers, on which we have not yet reported. The Council: - a) approved the 2002 budget for Europol, the European police office (EUR 48.5 million); noted its annual report 2000; stressed its role in the fight against euro counterfeiting and confirmed the political agreement for the signing of cooperation agreements between this European office and Iceland, Norway and Interpol; - b) adopted a resolution on exchanges of DNA analysis; - c) recommended that Member States, that have not yet done so, should join the 24/24 hour-7/7 day contact network of the G8 for combating high technology-related crimes; - d) noted the final report of the first assessment of judicial cooperation in criminal matters and a report on judicial cooperation for the holding of goods; - e) adopted a decision that regulates the transmission of drug samples intended for criminal investigations or scientific analyses; - and f) stressed the importance of rapidly adopting a decision on the setting in place of a specific system for the analysis of synthetic drugs. On the other hand, the Council, unlike what was foreseen, did not adopt a resolution on bugging the new telecommunication networks.
