Brussels, 20/04/2001 (Agence Europe) - On Tuesday 24 April, the "Green Week" will open in Brussels. It is a conference-exhibition organised by the Directorate General for the Environment at the European Commission, on an initiative by Margot Wallström, Environment Commissioner. The aim of the event, that will bring together environmental NGOs, representatives from industry, local authorities, the scientific community and European decision-makers, is to make known to the public the sixth action programme for the environment (2001-2010) and to float a debate on the main challenges to be raised. The Green Week will combine meetings, workshops and exhibitions on themes identified as priorities for guiding future Community action: climate change, nature and biodiversity, health and the environment, water, and waste management. Over eighty exhibitors from Member States and candidate countries will present their environmental projects.
