Brussels, 02/04/2001 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission adopted, on 29 March, an intervention plan to the continuation of humanitarian aid granted to the victims of the war in Angola. The EUR 9 million allocated will be granted by ECHO, the EU humanitarian office, to partner organisations working in the country, to finance programmes in the fields of health, food, water, emergency care and air transport. The main aim is to reduce the rate of mortality with the most vulnerable groups and to provide aid and non-food products to the growing number of displaced persons within the country. Between 1992 and 2000, ECHO granted more than EUR 125 million to Angola.
