Verheugen considers progress made in 2000 (and mainly conclusion of IGC) has finally opened the road to enlargement - Support for Swedish Presidency's ambitious but realistic programme - No longer a question of target dates

Brussels, 16/01/2001 (Agence Europe) - Enlargement Commissioner Günter Verheugen gave a positive report of progress made in membership negotiations over the past year. He felt that, after the conclusion of the IGC on institutional reform in Nice, "the enlargement train has been given the green light and the way ahead is clear".
