Brussels, 12/01/2001 (Agence Europe) - The EU Scientific Steering Committee, gathered for two days to rule on the scientific pertinence of the bilateral measures adopted by certain Member States in the context of the Mad Cow crisis (see yesterday's EUROPE, p.12) completed its works Friday evening, but no news has been filtered. The European Commission has made it known, through a press released, that the text of the conclusions "will be finalised next week".
The decision by Italy to lifts its embargo on live cattle from France ( decided last November) has, on the other hand, been welcomed by the spokesperson, David Byrne, European Commissioner responsible for Health and Consumers.
