Brussels, 12/01/2001 (Agence Europe) - The Berlin Congress of the EPP Party must also adopt, on Saturday, a resolution for expressing its opposition to the new Dutch legislation that makes euthanasia legal. The EPP said it was convinced that, to maintain human dignity, it is necessary to develop palliative care rather than authorise euthanasia. It also considers such legislation would run counter to the European Convention on Human Rights and, in particular, to its Article 2 which makes it compulsory for States to protect the "right to life". The EPP calls on the Netherlands Senate to vote against this proposal of law already approved by the House of Representatives.
