ECONOMIC INTERPENETRATION / (eu) telecommunications

German DEUTSCHE TELEKOM is to buy up, for an overall price of $180 million, 51% of the capital of six telecommunications companies of the Polish group ELEKTRIM (telecommunications, energy). The contract of sale concerns RST EL-NET, TELEFONIA REGIONALNA, ELEKTRIM TV TEL, INTERNET POLSKA, VPN SERVICE and POLISH PHONESAT. Furthermore, according to the Danish daily Berlingske Tidende, DEUTSCHE TELEKOM is interested in acquiring the telecommunications group TELE DANMARK. The latter's main shareholder, American SBC, which controls 42% of the shares, could sell its stake on 12 January, when the agreement reached with the Danish state expires. Under the terms of the agreement, it cannot sell its stake before this date.
