Hungary resumes its corn exports to EU, agreement over wine cleared

Brussels, 28/11/2000 (Agence Europe) - A solution has been found to the Euro-Hungarian dispute over corn (see EUROPE of 25 November, p.13). Monday, at a meeting in Budapest, the Hungarian authorities agreed to take the immediate measures necessary to allow exports of Hungarian corn to be processed in the EU for human food. The Hungarian authorities also undertook to ensure that contracts with EU operators that may have been annulled due to the embargo would be carried through. In the light of this positive development, the Commission has decided to clear the agreement over wine and spirits, which will take effect on 1 January next.
