"Nations without State" Intergroup welcomes Parliament's approval of Charter

Brussels, 21/11/2000 (Agence Europe) - The European Parliament "Nations without State" Intergroup has welcomed Parliament's approval, last week in Strasbourg, of the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union. Its members, who sit in the EP as representatives of nationalist, regionalist or autonomous parties from Galicia, Catalonia, Scotland, the Basque country, Wales, Flanders, Andalucia, Valle d'Aosta and the Canary Islands, note that the Charter represents enormous progress in the protection of citizens' rights at European level and will help give Europe a human face and a proximity, essential at this stage of European construction. The Intergroup welcomes in particular the inclusion of articles referring to the recognition of diversity. And it mentions Article 21 (non-discrimination), which refers to national languages and minorities, and Article 22, which guarantees respect for cultural and linguistic diversity.
