Brussels, 31/10/2000 (Agence Europe) - Four results from the European research into steel have been presented, on Tuesday, on the site of Usinor in Dunkirk, in the presence of the French group's President, Francis Mer, and European Commissioner Philippe Busquin.
This research, supported by the ECSC, cover: (1) the transformation of dangerous waste into base materials for high performance magnets (project coordinated by Eko Stahl GnbH, Germany); (2) the improvement of safety in the industrial process, of stability and the quality of products that are made as well as the life span of blast furnaces, through an artificial intelligence system that permanently follows 3,350 variable (project put together by Usinor, France); (3) the reduction of energy consumption and the production of CO2 by around 90% through a direct pouring of steel strips (project of a consortium lead by Salzgitter AG, Germany); (4) the production of a better quality steel for the automobile industry, with a better resistance to the gravel projections (project of the Steel Research Centre, Belgium).
