02/10/2000 (Agence Europe) - The Commissioner responsible for regional policy, Michel Barnier, last week went to the Netherlands. One of the aim of this visit was to gain a modification to the programming document for Objective 2 in the Netherlands for the 2000-2006 period so as to take into account the damage suffered by the town of Enschede, hit in May by a very serious explosion in a fireworks warehouse. The Commissioner was unable to obtain this modification, the other towns selected in the programming document having not wanted to reduce their grant in favour of Enschede, adds the Commission.
