Commission allows Salzgitter to take over steel tubes maker Mannesmannrohren-Werke

Brussels, 18/09/2000 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission has approved the takeover by the German integrated steel producer Salzgitter AG of the German steel tubes maker, Mannesmannrohren-Werke (MRW) currently held by Mannesmann (99.3%) and Thyssen (0.7%).

The Commission noted that the operation would lead to an overlap of activities in the production of semi-finished quarto plates and large diameter welded tubes, but that "there would be no competition problems in either of these...
