Luxembourg, 04/08/2000 (Agence Europe) - According to Eurostat, primary coal production in the EU fell by 6.8 million tonnes in 1999, going from 106.5 to 99.7 million tonnes. The steepest falls were in Germany (-3.3%) and the United Kingdom (-9.1%). Stocks increased by 0.5 million tonnes to stand at 15.3 million. Coke production amounted to 36.3 million tonnes, or 3.3 million less than in 1998. 69,200 men worked underground in EU coal producer countries, or 5,600 less than the previous year....
