The Dutch group PHILIPS has bought, on undisclosed terms, an IBM semiconductor fabrication plan in New York State, US. The plan producers 250,000 silicon waters a year and will increase PHILIPS' semiconductor capacity by 12.5%. The turnover of the semiconductor industry was Euro 3.8 bil in 1999.
