On Thursday evening, Council continues preparation of EU strategy for 6th post-Kyoto meeting

Luxembourg, 22/06/2000 (Agence Europe) - After the results given in previous articles, the Environment Council was working, on Thursday evening, on Community strategy to fight global warning, with a view to the United Nations Conference in The Hague in November. After a meeting of experts which highlighted the wide differences between Member States last week in Bonn, "the aim is for the EU to reach a united position", Dominique Voynet, French Minister and the next President of the Environment Council, told the press. The experts and ministers were therefore working on a "positive" list of priorities, excluding the nuclear issue from their draft conclusions. "The ministers representing the States opposed to nuclear issues being raised are all personally anti-nuclear (…) but we are aware that one must not marginalise these States if we want to reach a united position", remarked Dominique Voynet.
