Brussels, 08/06/2000 (Agence Europe) - Saïd Charchira, President of the European Union Migrants' Forum, and H. E. Ms Ndioro Ndiaye, Deputy Director General of the International Organisation for Migration (IOM), are to sign, on Friday 9 June in Brussels, a Memorandum of Understanding the aim of which is to increase the effectiveness of their work by strengthening their cooperation. The Memorandum provides a framework for the development and implementation of joint projects and complementary action. It allows resources to be pooled and an exchange of information at all levels. Special attention will be granted to actions in favour of women, children and ethnic minorities. Joint initiatives could also be proposed in favour of European migrants and ethnic minorities at European level, such as: research and studies on health care for migrants, and HIV/AIDS prevention for migrant women and children.
EUROPE recalls that the EU Migrants' Forum was established in 1992 and is recognised by the different European institutions as a spokesbody on migration issues and the rights of third country nationals. It comprises some 190 migrants' organisations and national federations which themselves represent over two thousand grass-roots organisations. Information: Annalisa Glückstadt in Brussels.
