Brussels, 08/06/2000 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission suspects unlawful behaviour between the Belgian brewery groups, Interbrew and Alken-Maes, which are believed to have price agreements on the Belgian market. It plans to send a statement of objections to the two groups, which control 56% and 20% of the Belgian market respectively, before the summer calling for explanations. The European Commission mainly suspects Interbrew ("Stella Artois", "Jupiler", "Leffe" and "Hoegaarden" of practices aimed at excluding rival brands, such as a programme of discounts to encourage customer fidelity.
