Union calls for "consultation" in context of WTO to oppose US "Carrousel" scheme in commercial disputes

Geneva, 08/06/2000 (Agence Europe) - The European Union has submitted to the World Trade Organisation (WTO) a request for consultation with the United States on the system of rotating sanctions ("carrousel") adopted by the Americans. When the United States is authorised to apply trade sanctions (as in the case of hormoned meat, for example), the administration may review such sanctions every six months so that the list of products affected varies continually.
