19/05/2000 (Agence Europe) - Trade union rights, social rights and the problems of free movement linked to European reunification are on the agenda of the conference, to be held in Frankfurt/Oder and in Slubice (border area between Germany and Poland) on Friday 19 and Saturday 20 May, organised by the European Trade Union Confederation (ETUC) on the initiative of Peter Seideneck, special "enlargement" advisor to ETUC's General Secretary. Taking part in this meeting are representatives of organisations affiliated to ETUC from EU countries and countries candidates for accession. May we remind you that this conference comes on the eve of the launch, at the end of next week, of a survey undertaken by consultants, under the responsibility of Commissioner Ana Diamantopoulou, on the implications of a free movement of workers from candidate countries to EU countries as soon as their countries join, and presenting statistics on migratory flows.
