Brussels, 02/05/2000 (Agence Europe) - On Wednesday, the European Commission will adopt, without debate, its opinion on the request introduced by Greece to participate in the third stage of Economic and Monetary Union from 1 January 2001. This Opinion - essential for the European Council to be able to take a formal decision - assesses the way Athens meets the convergence criteria, ie., the same conditions that the eleven States already members of the "Euro Group" had to meet.
