Austrian Finance Minister speaks of delaying contributions to the European budget, Commission remains serene

Vienna, 17/04/2000 (Agence Europe) - Austrian Finance Minister Karl-Heinz Grasser (FPÖ) stated on Monday in an interview with the daily Die Kurier that use of its veto power to block decisions taken by the European Union would be an "appropriate" reaction to bilateral sanctions by the Fourteen against his country. Further, Mr Grasser stated that the Austrian contribution to the EU budget should be lowered and denounced the "massive waste of European funds" in southern Member States.
