ECONOMIC INTERPENETRATION / (eu) waste

SITA, waste treatment subsidiary of the French group SUEZ LYONNAISE DES EAUX, is to buy PACIFIC WASTE MANAGEMENT, Australian subsidiary of the American group WASTE MANAGEMENT, for US$ 230 million. This company, with a pro forma turnover in 1999 of Australian $218 million and a workforce of 802, provides services to some 600,000 residents and 30,000 industrial and commercial customers. In addition, WASTE MANAGEMENT is to sell its Italian activities to EMAS and ITALCOGIM for US$ 70 million.
