Positive session of Association Council

Brussels, 25/01/2000 (Agence Europe) - The second session of the EU/Tunisia Association Council was held Monday evening and allowed for a wide exchange of views on the functioning of the Agreement in force and prospects for its development. At trade level, the agreement is at a turning point from two points of view: a) both parties must begin to review the access regimes to their respective agricultural markets; b) Tunisia must move to a second phase of tariff dismantling in the industrial sector.

In other fields, the exchange of views related to the liberalisation of services and the social provisions of the agreement. The EU delegation recognised Tunisia's efforts and progress.

EUROPE will return to the details and the final press conference.

The session of the Association Council was followed by an informal "political dialogue" on bilateral issues and on international politics.
