Brussels, 20/01/2000 (Agence Europe) - On Thursday, the Commission approved the acquisition by Marconi plc of control of Robert Bosch Gmbh activities concerning telecommunications equipment intended for the public network.
Marconi, the former General Electric Company, is a major international group which focuses on strong growth markets in the communications sector. It will gain access to radio technology and will improve its position in Europe. The Commission has approved the operation given the fact that, on one hand, market shares will only increase slightly and, on the other, that there are powerful competitors on the market, such as Alcatel, Lucent, Nortel and Siemens.
