Strasbourg, 20/01/2000 (Agence Europe) - With its adoption of a resolution tabled jointly by six political groups (EPP, PES, G/EFA, GUE/NGL, EON and ED) on the recent storms in Europe, the European Parliament invited the Commission and the Member States not affected to examine at the earliest opportunity specific Community solidarity measures mobilising professional and technical means, in the framework of the five-year plan establishing a programme of Community action for civil protection, adopted by the Council on 9 December 1999. The EP also called on Member States to establish as soon as possible their development and conversion plans to avoid any delay in the process of the allocation of Structural Funds to affected regions covered by Objective 2. The Commission is invited to take all useful measures to ensure that victims are informed rapidly of aid made available to them under the Structural Funds and to grant the aid without delay. Parliament called on the Commission to submit appropriate proposals should it find that available resources for this aid are insufficient.
