GENERAL NEWS / (eu) ep/regional policy

20/01/2000 (Agence Europe) - With its adoption of the report by German Christian Democrat Rolf Berend on the Sixth Periodic Report on the Social and Economic Situation and Development of the Regions of the EU, the European Parliament stated that the employment situation in different regions presents such specific features that it is for Member State authorities first and foremost to take measures. The EP therefore called on the Commission to use its programmes to supplement national policies.
