Commission to recommend that the Councial approve the outcome of free-trade area negotiations

Brussels, 17/01/2000 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission is expected to adopt on Tuesday a communication proposing that the Council approve the results of the negotiation of a free-trade area between the EU and Mexico, concluded last November (see EUROPE of 26 November, page 7). Formally, this is not a new agreement, the EU and Mexico having signed in December 1997 a framework agreement to which the result of the trade negotiations were to be added subsequently.
