17/01/2000 (Agence Europe) - Following the first round of presidential elections in Finland, a second round will be necessary, on 6 February. In the first round, Foreign Minister, Social-Democrat Tarja Hallonen (who chaired the Council in the Finnish Presidency in the last half of 1999) came on top, with 40% of the votes, whereas former Prime Minister Esko Aho, centrist opposition leader, secured 34.4%.
