EU intends keeping the pressure up on the United States so that the Montreal Conference leads to a positive result for biological safety and the safeguard of the world's biodiversity

Brussels, 17/01/2000 (Agence Europe) - The fate of the International Protocol on biosecurity, negotiated over five years in the framework of the United Nations Conference on Biodiveristy, will soon be sealed. Negotiations resume on Thursday 20 January in Montreal (Canada) for eight days. Experts hope to be able to reach agreement to put the finishing touches to the text and allow for its adoption at the closing ministerial session (24-28 January).
