17/07/2026 (Agence Europe) – Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, sent a letter to European Parliament Member Christophe Grudler (Renew Europe, French) on Friday 17 July, assuring him that nuclear energy would be included among the energy sources eligible for the European Union’s data centres sustainability label. Her reply follows a letter sent by the Member of the European Parliament on 12 May (see EUROPE 13872/16), in which he voiced concern about the inclusion of nuclear energy and hydropower in this renewable energy factor (REF). The Commission plans to adopt a delegated act establishing a European rating system for the sustainability of data centres, including “all low-carbon electricity sources”, the President said, possibly in July (see EUROPE 13873/18).
