07/07/26 (Agence Europe) – Reinier van Lanschot (the Greens/EFA group, Dutch) has been appointed rapporteur for the European Parliament’s Committee on Internal Market and Consumer Protection (IMCO) on the legislation on cloud computing and artificial intelligence development (Cloud and AI Development Act, CADA) (see EUROPE 13880/2), which forms a central part of the legislative package on technological sovereignty, presented by the European Commission with a view to reducing Europe’s dependence on third countries in strategic sectors such as semiconductors, artificial intelligence and cloud computing (see EUROPE 13880/1). “We now have a considerable amount of work ahead of us in Parliament before we can conclude negotiations with the Council of the EU and the Commission, which we hope to finalise by the end of 2027,” he said on his LinkedIn account, emphasising the need to demonstrate “ambition, speed and a truly European approach” to strengthen Europe’s digital sovereignty.
