In response to the devastating earthquakes that struck Venezuela last week, the European Union announced on Monday 29 June that it had released €5 million in emergency aid for the affected Venezuelan population.
This week, an air bridge will operate from Copenhagen to transport 50 tonnes of equipment (shelter, water sanitation, school supplies). Through the activation of the EU’s Civil Protection Mechanism (see EUROPE 13897/27), 11 Member States and Türkiye have provided support in the form of equipment and human resources. A team of 11 rescuers from six EU countries and from the European Commission’s emergency response coordination centre (ERCC) are on the ground to help coordinate rescue operations.

On Sunday, High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas spoke with Venezuela’s interim president, Delcy Rodriguez, and conveyed to her “the EU’s full solidarity with the Venezuelan people”.
