The EU27 Employment and Social Affairs ministers adopted conclusions in Luxembourg on Monday 29 June devoted to preventing and combating cyberviolence against girls. The text calls on the Member States and the European Commission to strengthen the protection of girls and young women in the digital environment.
It states that girls are more exposed than boys to cyberbullying, the non-consensual sharing of intimate images, sexist hate speech and other forms of online violence, the effects of which often continue offline.
The conclusions therefore call on the Member States to develop education on digital consent, provide better training for teachers, and strengthen psychological and legal support for victims, as well as the resources of law enforcement authorities.
In addition, the text urges digital platforms, intermediary service providers, telecommunications companies and manufacturers of electronic devices to implement solutions to prevent abuse and improve content moderation.
Furthermore, the conclusions support studies devoted to the psychological, social and economic repercussions of cyberviolence.
