09/06/2026 (Agence Europe) – The European Commission announced aid of €16.5 million on Tuesday 9 June to continue the fight against the Ebola epidemic in Central Africa. Of this package, €6.5 million will be dedicated to the Africa Pathogen Genomics Initiative (Africa PGI), while screening equipment worth €5 million will be deployed in the hardest-hit areas. In addition to these two components, €5 million has been allocated to the World Health Organization (WHO) to support epidemic surveillance and finance the necessary equipment — aid already announced the previous day by Hadja Lahbib, Commissioner for Equality, Preparedness and Crisis Management, during her visit to the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Ethiopia (see EUROPE 13883/29). In total, more than €115 million in humanitarian aid has already been allocated in 2026 for the Great Lakes region. (JM)
