Inflation confirmed at 3.0% in April 2026 in euro area

20/05/2026 (Agence Europe)Annual inflation in the euro area stood at 3.0% in April 2026, up from 2.4% in March, according to figures published by the Statistical Office of the European Union (Eurostat) on Wednesday 20 May. At EU level, inflation stood at 3.2% in April, compared with 2.8% in March and 2.4% a year earlier. The highest annual rates were recorded in Romania (9.5%), Bulgaria (6.0%) and Croatia (5.4%). The lowest were recorded in Sweden (0.5%), Denmark (1.2%) and the Czech Republic (2.1%). Inflation remained sustained in France (2.5%), Italy (2.8%) and Germany (2.9%), and was strong in Spain (3.5%). Services (+1.38 percentage points), energy (+0.99 pp), food, alcohol and tobacco (+0.46 pp), as well as non-energy industrial goods (+0.20 pp), made positive contributions to the euro area’s annual inflation rate in April. (BD)
