23/04/2026 (Agence Europe) – On Thursday, 23 April, the European Union announced that it had released €175,000 in humanitarian aid in response to the recent floods in Afghanistan. This funding, which comes from the Disaster Response Emergency Fund (DREF), will help around 12,000 people in eight provinces that were hit especially hard, including Herat, Kandahar, and Helmand. The funding will enable the Afghan Red Crescent to provide direct financial assistance as well as essential resources, such as emergency shelters, blankets, hygiene kits, and primary health care. This support comes as a supplement to the €162 million that the EU has allocated to its humanitarian partners in the country this year. Since January, 270 tonnes of nutrition supplies have already been flown in to Afghanistan. (JM)
