27/03/2026 (Agence Europe) – In a press release issued on Friday 27 March, the Chair of the European Parliament’s Subcommittee on Human Rights, Mounir Satouri (Greens/EFA, French), regretted the Tunisian authorities’ request to postpone the visit of a delegation to the country. “We deplore the fact that this request has been made (...) without prior consultation, and condemn the avoidance of a meeting with the elected representatives of European citizens. We would have liked to resume a dialogue that was interrupted in 2023 following Tunisia’s refusal to host a delegation from the European Parliament’s Committee on Foreign Affairs”. The sub-committee hopes “to be able to reschedule this visit very soon”. This visit was to be the European Parliament’s first official visit to Tunisia since the Tunisian authorities refused to authorise a mission by the Committee on Foreign Affairs in September 2023. The planned mission was a combined Egypt/Tunisia mission scheduled to run from Monday to Thursday. In exchange, the sub-committee will be organising a meeting on Tunisia with Tunisian civil society on 14 April. (SP)
