09/02/2026 (Agence Europe) – On Monday 9 February, the European Commission approved a Polish measure designed to support the resilience of Poland’s mountain and lowland forest ecosystems to climate change. With a budget of €119 million, distributed in the form of a direct grant from the National Forest Holding, this public aid will be used for two types of investment: - water retention measures, such as the construction, extension, or reconstruction of reservoirs and the restoration of wetland area functions; - preventing excessive water erosion (landslide stabilisation, ditch protection, bridge restoration, etc.) Having analysed the measure in the light of the December 2022 guidelines for state aid in the agriculture and forestry sectors (see EUROPE 13084/17), the Commission considered that it was necessary, appropriate and proportionate.
