Brussels, 05/02/2026 (Agence Europe) – On Thursday 5 February in Ljubljana, the European Parliament’s S&D and Renew Europe groups voiced their support for the Slovenian Social Democrats and Robert Golob’s outgoing Liberal government respectively. With a view to the legislative elections on 22 March, the S&D group wants to “defend Europe against Trumpian Trojan horses” and is also calling on the European People’s Party (EPP) to exclude Janez Janša’s SDS party “for its anti-European policies”. Under previous “governments led by Trump supporter Janez Janša, Slovenia has seen attacks on media freedom, increased political polarisation and alignment with illiberal leaders such as Viktor Orbán. These years have weakened democratic confidence and damaged Slovenia’s credibility in Europe”, commented the Renew Europe group. (SP)
