27/01/2026 (Agence Europe) – On Tuesday 27 January, the European Parliament’s Committee on the Internal Market and Consumer Protection (IMCO) approved the agreement with the Council of the EU on the revision of the Package Travel Directive. This agreement, reached in December (see EUROPE 13765/7), clarifies the definition of a travel package and abolishes the existing category of linked travel arrangements, in favour of uniform criteria based on how and when the services are booked. It also introduces the voluntary use of vouchers, which travel organisers can offer instead of refunds, but travellers have the right to refuse them. Furthermore, these vouchers will be valid for a maximum of 12 months and will be transferable only once. The text must now be approved by the EU Council and then by the whole European Parliament.
