Asylum procedures, MEPs approve the agreement with the Council of the EU on the texts “safe countries of origin” and “safe third countries”

On Tuesday 27 January, the European Parliament’s Committee on Civil Liberties (LIBE) adopted two texts aimed at amending the Asylum Procedures Regulation.

The first, for which Lena Düpont (EPP, German) was rapporteur, specifies the application of the concept of “safe third country”, while the second, negotiated by Alessandro Ciriani (ECR, Italian), establishes a list of so-called safe countries of origin.
