21/01/2026 (Agence Europe) – “We have still not received an official explanation of the reasons for this sanction. These are political attacks designed to silence opponents”. Invited to the European Parliament on Wednesday 21 January, the two co-CEOs of the NGO HateAid, Anna-Lena von Hodenberg and Joséphine Ballon, were at a loss for words when they criticised the Trump administration’s decision to impose an entry ban on them. Like them, several other European figures were targeted last December, including the former European Commissioner for Internal Market, Thierry Breton (see EUROPE 13779/25). “The Commission has not acted and we are very angry”, they added in front of the press. The EU says it has asked the US authorities for explanations. Explanations that may never come: the Trump administration is standing firm and continues to describe European digital regulation as censorship directed against Americans (see EUROPE 13591/6). (IS)
